How to convert cm to feet and inches
Feet = whole number of (total inches ÷ 12)
Inches left over = total inches − (feet × 12)
For 175 cm: 175 ÷ 2.54 = 68.9 inches. That is 5 feet (60 inches) and 8.9 inches, which you can round to 5 ft 9 in.

Where each system is used
Most countries measure height in centimeters. The United States uses feet and inches, and so do the UK, Canada and Ireland in everyday conversation, so people often need to switch between them for forms, sports profiles, clothing sizes and health tools.
Common mistakes
- Writing 5.9 ft when you mean 5 ft 9 in. A decimal foot is a fraction of 12 inches, so 5.9 ft is about 5 ft 10.8 in.
- Rounding the inches too early. Convert with the full value first and round only at the end.
